DEEP PURPLE AND GREEN LINE ROCKS
FOR CLEVELAND SCRAP
PRESS RELEASE
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

CLEVELAND, OH – A seemingly endless volume of deep purple scows, luggers and containers swarm 3 SENNEBOGEN green line material handlers at Cleveland Scrap. Wow! Would be an understatement of the colorful visual impact presented by the Cleveland Scrap deep purple scow’s, luggers and bins. Each have a distinctive white bulldog logo, are meticulously clean and well maintained. “We’re different. We want to stand out and we want it to show. We want to provide the highest level of customer service and we want this philosophy to be recognized in our market. This way, it becomes a way of life,” states Jacob Youngman, Executive Vice President of Cleveland Scrap.

When asked about the piercing deep purple color Jacob shares, “As a kid, I had a 69 VW dune buggy, a family hand-me-down. We all went through it. For $1.00, it was yours to enjoy, maintain, repair and clean. It was deep purple metal flake and it stuck out like a sore thumb.”

Jacob, cut his teeth in family owned scrap companies, tagging along as a pesky toddler and now 24 years old with a marketing background and scrap business savvy well beyond his years, he’s digging in. Jacob, with his partner, father Allen Youngman have grown this company from a 2 acre “peddler” yard to a 10 acre ferrous processing facility in just over 4 years.

The experienced management at Cleveland Scrap learned long ago that the key to long term success in the scrap business is through controlling the cost per ton and operating efficiently at every step. This meant selecting the right material handling and processing equipment to support their startup operation.

Jacob states, “We wanted new. We looked at everything out there. We demo’d the SENNEBOGEN equipment, analyzed their operating costs and how it fit our vision. We expected 7 day a week operation, with no downtime.” Cleveland Scrap operates 3 SENNEBOGEN green line material handlers. Two of them, 66,500 lb., 825 M models, fitted with quick couplers to switch out between magnets and grapples and the third a 94,500 lb., 835 M with a 67” magnet. Based on the layout of the yard, to maximize space utilization, all the machines are rubber tired. All 3 units are operating at their daily peak capacity in the unloading and loading cycle.

The hydraulic cab on the 835 M provides the operator with a clear and unobstructed view of the top of the pile in the trailer.

Lee Gibson of Gibson Machinery LLC, the SENNEBOGEN green line distributor has worked closely with Cleveland Scrap from their startup supplying them with all their material handlers and mobile shears. Lee states, “It’s a pleasure to have the opportunity to develop a close working relationship with Jacob and at the same time, watch Cleveland Scrap grow in their market. Jacob and his partner are so knowledgeable and combined with Jacob’s enthusiasm, it trickles down throughout the whole company. They have placed their confidence in us and we respect that position of trust.”

According to Jacob, “The Gibson relationship is so important to us. While we have our own on-site mechanics performing our regimented preventive maintenance program, we handle 90% of all issues. The SENNEBOGEN material handlers are simple to service and you don’t need the “geek squad” on call, as there’s no computer on board. Gibson Machinery handles anything beyond our scope, but there hasn’t been much.”

When asked what Jacob would recommend to potential purchasers of material handlers, he leaned back in the chair of his modest 2nd floor office, and thought for a second. “In my estimate, these SENNEBOGEN machines are the answer. I wouldn’t buy another machine. Even as we speak, we’re considering another 4 SENNEBOGEN machines for Cleveland Scrap, all fitted with shears.”

SENNEBOGEN has been a leading name in the global material handling industry for more than 50 years. Based in Charlotte, North Carolina, SENNEBOGEN America offers a complete line of purpose-built machines to suit virtually any heavy lift or "pick & carry" application.
