PRESS RELEASE
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Four SENNEBOGEN 870 M Special at Forth Ports
Within very short time the 870 machines can be transported in one piece from port to port. In total, four SENNEBOGEN 870 Mobil Specials are flexibly used by Forth Ports for material handling.

Forth Ports PLC is the third largest port operator in the UK with a sales figure of 195 million Euro.

Forth Ports' strategy is characterized by constant and reliable growth, stable long-term customer relations and an effective use of resources targeted at continuously increasing company value. Forth Ports operates a total of eight regional ports. Seven of these ports are located in Scotland and one in Tilbury, London. Through these ports, different commodities are handled. These commodities include steel, iron, scrap metal, wood, and agricultural commodities.

In addition to traditional port cranes on rails, Forth Ports’ locations now utilise four SENNEBOGEN 870 Mobile Special machines. After careful examination of the SENNEBOGEN machines, the project managers at Forth Ports were convinced by the high quality, robust technology and consistent machine reliability. Through numerous meetings, the machines were individually tailored to customer-specific requirements. The clear focus on the customer, as well as SENNEBOGEN's strong commitment to the development of the correct product and the support rendered by SENNEBOGEN sales partner E.H. Hassell & Sons Ltd., impressed Forth Ports and were the main contributors to the success of this project.

One central aspect for Forth Ports was the fact that the 870 is ready for transport within a very short period of time. Forth Ports utilise a specialist forwarding company to transport the equipment on a low bed truck This transport needs no special permission from either the Police or transport authorities and this variant of the 870 M Special, which was especially designed for Forth Ports, is currently the largest completely transportable cargo handling equipment in operation within the UK and Europe. Total transport time between the Scottish Forth Ports locations ranges between 1 1/2 and 2 1/2 hours.
As a result of the short transfer time between the Ports, on average, the equipment has been moved seven times per month since its introduction in August 2008. This flexibility enables Forth Ports to offer the same cargo handling technology in all its ports, to focus even more on customer needs and to further enhance effectiveness, efficiency and competitive advantage.
For the handling of bulk material and timber and other commodities, the four 870 M machines are used with specialised attachments. Equipped with double shell-type grabs, hooks, timber grabs or pulp grabs, these 870M machines are ideally suited for all applications. Despite having only been deployed by Forth Ports for 4 months the SENNEBOGEN 870 M are already operating at high levels of productivity. The equipment has been deployed in cargo handling activities for approximately 250 hours per month, with high reliability and efficiency.

For this project, Forth Ports PLC has recently been awarded the renowned and coveted Falkirk Herald Business Award in the category "Most innovative Company/ Product". The unique transportation concept of the machines and the close cooperation between Forth Ports, E.H. Hassell & Sons Ltd. and SENNEBOGEN has convinced the expert jury and led them to award this prize.
