| Since October of last year, two SENNEBOGEN 870 Crawler Specials have been working in the Taichung harbour in Taiwan.
These are the first SENNEBOGEN machines for port use in Asia. Taichung, as the third largest city in Taiwan, is the economic and cultural centre as well as the main traffic hub of central Taiwan. A large industrial centre is located on the edge of the city. Approximately 1 million people are live in Taichung spread over an area of 163 sq.km.
Approximately 90 million tonnes of material are handled in the port every year. The port is equipped for handling fluids, mixed cargo and containers. The two SENNEBOGEN 870 R Specials are in use for 18 hours a day for unloading ships up to 27,000 DWT. Mainly scrap is located directly onto trucks with the 1.6 or 1.8 m³ orange peel grab. Approximately 120 tons are handled economically and safely per hour. Whether unloading ships or loading trucks - the B23 special attachment with 14 m Banana-boom and extra long 12.25 m jib makes operation easy and economical even on larger vessels. Faster and easier switching between grabbers is guaranteed by the SENNEBOGEN Multi-Tool. A total of seven orange peel and clamshell grabbers are used with 1 and 2 meter grabber extensions for extra reach. The Skylift harbour cab and the 5 m pylon provides for an excellent view of the working environment and more security in operation.
The high expectations of the customer Chien Shing Harbour Service has been met and exceeded with the two SENNEBOGEN 870s. Encouraged by this experience, two SENNEBOGEN 835 Crawler Specials were ordered in January 2008 for the Taichung harbour.
